With the objective of utilizing his experience for the holistic development of the city of Mumbai, ex-serviceman Subedar Nitin Harishchandra Patil has submitted an application for the post of Nominated Corporator in the Mumbai Municipal Corporation. He has applied under the 'Sports' category, leveraging his experience of having competed at various levels; through this initiative, he has expressed his hope that the participation of experts from the sports sector in urban development will increase. The All India Ex-Servicemen Organization—along with the general public—is raising the pertinent question: "Why shouldn't an ex-serviceman be appointed as a Nominated Corporator?"

Citing a circular issued by the Ministry of Urban Development, Subedar Patil has submitted this application to the Commissioner of the Mumbai Municipal Corporation. In his written submission, he has noted that experience in the social and sports sectors can prove invaluable in formulating the policies of the Mumbai Municipal Corporation and in shaping the city's overall development.

"The position of Nominated Corporator is not intended merely for political rehabilitation; rather, it exists to provide opportunities to experts from diverse fields—such as doctors, lawyers, engineers, business professionals, athletes, writers, litterateurs, teachers, and professors," he further clarified.

Describing this endeavor as an attempt to contribute to the city's development after having dedicated himself to national service as an ex-serviceman, Patil has appealed to the citizens of Mumbai to extend their support to this concept. His decision is being welcomed across various sections of society, and there is a widespread expectation that the administrative authorities will give positive consideration to his application.
